
“Alive”
Inspired by their observations of the beautiful Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos (Karak) from their frequent travels to the south-west corner of Western Australia, the collaborating artists have produced this Chinese calligraphy to raise awareness of the threat to all three South West Black Cockatoo species are threatened with extinction due to failings to protect their forest and woodland habitat from clearing, nor have key threats such as shootings, toxic sprays, fire, and vehicle strikes been adequately addressed to prevent extinction of the these beautiful creatures.
This piece titled "Alive" takes a unique interpretation of the Chinese character for bird "鸟", and stylising the thousands years old chracter to assume the form of the Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos' shapes and features.
